# AI Gateway MCP

AI Gateway MCP is a free, open-source (MIT) connector, also called an MCP server, for Claude and ChatGPT. Your chat keeps doing the writing and the thinking, and makes pictures and video with the models on Vercel AI Gateway through one private link. Each person runs their own copy on their own Vercel account. It is built independently and is not made by or affiliated with Vercel.

Right now that is 392 models from 42 providers (307 text, 46 image, 39 video), read live from AI Gateway's public catalog.

## Pricing

Requests run on Vercel AI Gateway. In Vercel's words: "AI Gateway charges no markup and no platform fee on tokens. You pay the provider's list price on a pay-as-you-go basis." (https://vercel.com/docs/ai-gateway/pricing)

There is no subscription and no monthly fee. Usage is billed to your own Vercel account as AI Gateway credits, and you can set a spend budget to cap it.

## What your chat can do with it

Claude or ChatGPT does the writing and planning with the context it already has. The connector adds:

- list_models: search every model by type or name, with its price.
- generate_image: pictures shown in the chat, with a private download link.
- start_video and get_video: video jobs, which take minutes, return a ticket first and the file when ready.

Together: produce a short film (the chat writes the script and shot prompts, the connector films the scenes with sound), write and illustrate a book, shoot a product campaign, or pick the right model for a job by price.

2. Open: your copy's page makes your secret (MCP_SECRET) in your browser, shows where it goes in Vercel, and tests your link after one redeploy.

### Is it safe?

Your link works like a password, so keep it private. Files stay in your own private storage, download links expire, and nobody else ever holds your keys.

### Can someone guess my link?

Not in practice. The secret made during setup is 64 random characters, so trying addresses one by one would never reach it, and every wrong try gets the same "page not found" as any other address. The real risk is the link leaking: if it does, change MCP_SECRET in your project and redeploy, and the old link stops working at once. A spend budget in AI Gateway caps what anyone could spend meanwhile.
